Tarzan: The Centennial Celebration

With the full cooperation of Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc., Titan Books is publishing the only official commemorative visual history of Tarzan. Lavishly illustrated and with fascinating insight into every element of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ extraordinary legacy, Tarzan: The Centennial Celebration commemorates 100 years of Tarzan tales, television, movies and memorabilia.

Tarzan remains one of the most recognizable pop-culture icons in the world with over 40 million Edgar Rice Burroughs novels sold worldwide, in 37 languages, including Braille and Esperanto.

In Tarzan: The Centennial Celebration internationally-acclaimed Edgar Rice Burroughs expert Scott Tracy Griffin explores the 24 original novels and the many varied appearances on stage, screen and in print. Each receives a detailed commentary, illustrated with some of the most evocative and beautiful artworks, illustrations and photographs, many rarely seen in print before.

Featuring an introduction from the great screen Tarzan, Ron Ely, and extensive commentary on all aspects of the Tarzan franchise, this visual treasure trove of classic comic strip, cover art, movie stills, and rare ephemera is a true celebration of the Lord of the Jungle’s 100th birthday.

Senior Commissioning Editor, Laura Price, acquired the rights from Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. She said, “It’s an incredible collection of beautiful artwork from dozens of acclaimed artists. Tracy Griffin’s insight into Burroughs’ work, life, and most-famous creation makes fascinating reading and is full of insight and humour. We’re delighted to be celebrating the centenary of such an immensely beloved cultural icon as Tarzan.”

Scott Tracy Griffin is considered one of the foremost Edgar Rice Burroughs experts in the world, with 30 years of articles appearing in magazines, journals, academia and fanzines, Griffin lives within swinging distance of Tarzana, California.

Ron Ely is best known for portraying Tarzan in the 1966 NBC series Tarzan and for his lead role in the 1975 film Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze.
